Electric motorbike update 7 - Bike fully assembled
Переглядів 7422 роки тому
Got the whole bike back into 1 piece, ready for the first real ride.
Electric motorbike update 6 - Putting more batteries in the tank and wiring done.
Переглядів 7292 роки тому
To get 20 more continuous Amps and 10Ah more battery capacity, I ended up putting 4 more Lime tubes inside the main tank, sitting above the motor controller. Ended up looking pretty decent. Also got most of the wiring now done and the battery capacity meter mounted nicely on the dash.
Electric motorbike update 5 - First test ride
Переглядів 1,3 тис.2 роки тому
Finally got the bike sorted enough to do a first test ride up and down the driveway. Bike performed very well, substantially more torque than the GEN1 attempt. Current was maxing out @ 130A. With 72V nominal, that is approx 9kW Test ride @ 3:20
Electric motorbike update 4 - Motor controller and throttle
Переглядів 1,1 тис.2 роки тому
Motor controller plate and throttle now mostly sorted
Electric motorbike update 3 - Batteries Wired
Переглядів 4932 роки тому
Main high-voltage battery all wired up and good to go now. Steady progress :) As shown in this video, bike will have 72V 65Ah nominal = approx 5kWh
Electric motorbike update 2 - Position Batteries and gut the tank.
Переглядів 6332 роки тому
Some more progress made on the electric motorbike project, got the battery placement figured out and started gutting the tank to fit over the top of the motor controller.
Electric motorbike update 1 - new motor and battery solution
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 роки тому
Update on the electric motorbike project, new motor fitted and battery box mostly welded together. The motor is a Motenergy ME-1003, around 12kW continuous @ 72V. The battery tubes are recycled from Segway electric scooters, they are 10S 2P Lithium Ion using 10A high-discharge rate Samsung cells.
First DIY Electric motorbike - Overview and test ride
Переглядів 13 тис.3 роки тому
This video shows a overview and test ride of my first attempt at a DIY electric motorbike. The donor bike was a Hyosung GT250R, Goldenmotor 5kW brushless DC motor (HPM500B) and Kelly KEB48601 motor controller. This is a 48V setup, the battery is a 12Ah 13S 48V pack I made out of recycled 20700 cells from Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner packs.
Gold Recovery - Final weigh-in after 3 years, was it worth it ?
Переглядів 10 тис.4 роки тому
Just a bit of a ramble about the economics of Gold recovery and somewhere in there I even weigh how much I have accumulated after 3-ish years of hobby level nights and weekends. There is no patreon and I promise never to refer to myself in the third person.
Gold Recovery - Trick for filtering difficult solutions

Gold Recovery via Copper Electrolysis - Part 2
Переглядів 90 тис.5 років тому

Just a quick update showing the progress of the Copper refining (Gold recovery) cell after the first day and a half of operation. Over 300g of Copper removed so far! THANKS to thefourthtuxzt for the tip about peeling the copper sheet from the stainless steel plates!
Gold Recovery via Copper Electrolysis - Part 1
Переглядів 174 тис.5 років тому
In part 1 I explain the way Gold can be recovered from a mixture of Gold and Copper (Gold plated pins for example) via electrolytic refining of Copper. This method is commonly used in industrial precious metals recovery from E-waste and has a number of advantages over other processes. This method creates relatively little waste, almost no fumes and is relatively safe when reasonable safety prec...

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge, you mentioned 75 grams of CuSO4 per liter, do you mean 75 of copper as CuSO4 which mean you will dissolve about 300 grams of CuSO4 or you mean 75 CuSO4? Cause I read in different sources that copper content should be 50 grams per liter that mean we need 200 grams of CuSO4 per liter. Another question, 10% of sulphuric acid mean add 100 ml sulphuric acid to 1 liter of water, or water plus Sulphuric acid should be 1 liter? Thanks for your help

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer 23 дні тому

      Hi there, this is going back many years, so I am a bit fuzzy on the details. Im pretty sure I used 75g CuSO4 and it would have been 1 to 10 H2SO4, even though that is not 10% total. For a DIY test I doubt it makes that much difference. Use those numbers as a starting point and do some controlled experiments. Good luck mate 👍

    For those who cannot melt copper pins into bars for the anode, instead could the pins be put into a porous bag with a connection to the power supply and dunked into the electrolyte? Similar to using silver shot or cornflakes in a silver cell.

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer Місяць тому

      I wouldn't think so, the idea is that the Copper atoms can migrate through the solution to the cathode, if you put the pins in whole, the Copper is surrounded by Gold. Sulfuric deplating cell is probably the best bet if you can't melt and cast anodes.

    Great video,thanx.However big disappointment for using the FINAL chemistry separation for Ag !!! Tell me please what I am missing here: Why should we use electrolises for Cu separation instead of the way , how people did it back in the days ??? Using flame torch... without the need of electrolyses ? ...the classical metod when ading Pb and heating it together on a cement ... Why is this better ? Thank you . Because Cooper separation from the aloy has never been really a big problem as far as I know even wehen using the old clasical method , hasn't it ? . Separating silver and other precious metal contaminants from the Gold ....that is the true difficult story.... That is the chemistry part,ok... Tell me please what I am missing here.... Thanx Btw. The chemistry PART 2 is absolutely fine, getting 99.9 ? thumbs up. I just dont get the electrolises Cu part... Why to overcomplicate? For Ag/Au separation we must have a bit different electrolictic solution in the Beaker , dont we ??? 😊 You may consider making video on this. Anyway thank you.

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer Місяць тому

      Separating a small amount of Gold from a large amount of Copper is very difficult, hard to do with smelting because Copper is not very reactive and expensive to do with chemicals. This is basically how industrial scale E-waste processing is done.

    hey mate, thanks for the video, hope you see this comment and help me. I own an Hyundai load 2011 turbo diesel and has lack of power, works good when starting engine but then after few stops loose power so I have to turn the engine off then on and works good for a while and the like. few things has done so far: intake manifold cleaning vacuum valve replacement fuel filter replacement = here is my question, when I replace the fuel filter, in the step of priming , the fuel never came out , so I have to turn the engine on to see if the fuel could go up and it did , the engine automatically turned off, so I could prime it and took the air out of the line . my question is what happen when priming and the diesel doesn't come out? thanks mate

I was put off by the work needed to drop the transmission, which is unfortunate because the internal components seem straightforward to work on. I wish I had been able to inspect everything myself, they were not able to get the needle bearings for inside the gears, which I would have liked to source myself. This helped me understand what is going on inside though, so thank you!!
